Say Goodbye to Resolutions – Start the New Year with the Yogic Intentions of Sankalpa
There was a time when an important part of welcoming in the New Year was to make resolutions. Many would plan to go to the gym more often or budget better or find the love that was lacking. These resolutions would last maybe a few weeks before the crowds in the gyms would thin out and consumer spending returned to normal. As far as finding love, well maybe it would last until Valentines Day. If you hadn’t found love at this point, on the most commercially, romantic holiday of the year it was bound to make you so bitter you had no option and swore off love all together, at…

Why Yin is “In” – Yoga to Keep Us Elastic Instead of Plastic
We all know the Yin-Yang symbol. The balance of light and dark, equal on both sides with just a touch of the opposite on each side. Yin is the darkness while Yang is the light. They are opposing forces that compliment each other and do not find balance without the other, soft to hard, cool to hot, feminine to masculine. Most of us spend much of our time engaging in Yang activities when it comes to moving our body even if we are practicing yoga. Yin yoga is the exception, offering us the opportunity to slow down, soften, and find the balance that we are not aware our body is…

Gratitude – The Happiness Recipe
As we all prepare for Thanksgiving, gratitude is something that is not far from our minds. Gratitude is appreciation for something we receive. How many times a day do you say thank you? If you have kids, you know it is one of the earliest lessons we teach as part of good manners. We know it is important. The question is, do we know why?

Dia de Los Muertos – A Celebration for the Dead
When you die, would you rather be celebrated or mourned? For me, certainly I would prefer to be celebrated. I want it to be a big party. One where everyone brings flowers, eats amazing food and stays up telling funny stories.

The Floating City of Venice
If you get the chance in this lifetime, see Venice. While I have never been particularly drawn to Italy, I have always been a bit fascinated with Venice. I would often be told to see it now because it is the sinking city, soon to be underwater. I wonder just how true that is but I wasn’t going to wait to find out. (Fun fact – Venice is sinking 1 to 2 millimeters per year!). Knowing I would be in Europe for work this past summer, it was the perfect opportunity to start the trip in Italy and see how one would live in a city that essentially floats. Since…

Getting Blissed-Out at the Spa
We nailed down a date before summer started. We had big plans to see a new city, Portland, maybe Austin. You know what they say though about the best laid plans, no? Yeah, me neither. The point is, our exciting getaway, as it approached, turned into plans for a more local overnight getaway and then ultimately a day at the spa. My friend and I have crazy busy jobs and more than anything, we just needed to unwind. I am thinking a quite day by the pool with a spa treatment. I even took two books to read. What I got was so entirely different but so much more. Glen…

A Journey to Mindfulness – Meditation 101
Picture this…we are living at the normal frantic pace of life as we always do -work, parenting, day to day stresses, than life throws you a curve ball. Teachers are telling you that there is something not quite right with your second grader. She is not keeping up with the work and not paying attention. Not so subtly, they are suggesting she should be medicated for ADHD. She is bright, social, and adored by all that meet her, except her teachers. All of life’s other challenges seem small in comparison to the perceived attack on your daughter. Everything seems personal when it is about your child. It started in…
