Samskaras – Pathways From Our Past

Samskara – The Interactive Exhibit

When a friend ask if I wanted to join her and others for the “Samskara” exhibit by Andriod Jones at Wisdome Immersive Art Park, Los Angeles, I gave her a very solid, yes! While I knew nothing about the exhibit, Samskara is a sanskrit word with meaning as deep as the grooves it creates.

The Language Sanskrit

Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages in the world. Originating out of India, Sanskrit is found in ancient Hindu and Buddhist text. Still spoken today, it is claimed by a limited population in India and Nepal as their native tongue. It is filled with beautiful words. Samskara is just of them.

What are Samskaras?

A Samskara is believed to be a groove embedded in our behavior that comes from positive and negative experiences including thought, action, and intention. Some also believe that these grooves can come from not only our current life but also our past life experience. The goal being that we are born once again to discover ways in which to change these grooves through recognition and new experiences.

Redirection of Personal Samskaras

Do you ever surprise yourself at the way you react to certain situations? Maybe you have unexplained patterns of behavior and no matter how much you search your past, you cannot identify where they have come from. If you have had these experiences, it is possible you have Samskaras that need redirection. Fear not, if you recognize it then it is possible to develop new patterns of behavior. This article from Yoga Journal “Stuck in a Rut?” by Bo Forbes gives a step-by-step process using yoga and yoga philosophy to redirect those grooves, setting you on a path to a more positive place.

Experience the Exhibit

The beautiful work of Andriod Jones

The Samskara exhibit was so much more than I expected. While I could try to describe it, it is really more of personal experience that may be different for each person depending on their experiences in life. The art of Andriod Jones is beautiful and his interactive exhibits are spectacularly done. If you get the opportunity, go experience it yourself. It will leave a lasting impression.
